MINEOLA, NY — A Brooklyn man was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years to life in prison for murdering a 21-year-old at a Massapequa house party on July 4, 2020, prosecutors announced. Thomas Massenburg, 23, was convicted in September of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The remarkable run by the Paul Schreiber High School boys basketball team took them all the way to the state championship game. However, the Port Washington squad fell short in the Class AAA title game to Shaker High School. Shaker held on for a 55-50 victory on Friday. Port Washington had advanced the day before with an 11-point semifinal win over Jamestown. They reached the state tournament after winning their first Long Island championship since 1946.

BROOKLYN, NY — Two men who ran fire alarm maintenance company, including an East Meadow man, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to wire fraud conspiracy in connection to a decade-long scheme to defraud New York City, federal prosecutors said. “Millions of dollars went up in smoke as Walter Stanzione and William Neogra fraudulently inflated the cost of their company’s products to finance personal luxurious purchases,” stated Acting FBI Assistant Director in Charge Leslie Backschies.

Held from March 18-20, the program offers students opportunities to participate in community service programs over spring break. Abigail Parilla, a Information Systems major from Long Beach, was among the students giving back this year. For the first time, Service Week included an inaugural program to meet and work with residents of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton.
