NORTH BRANFORD - A man charged with manslaughter in a fatal crash in March was smoking crack cocaine just before the collision, according to a witness statement included in an arrest warrant released Friday. Dylan Ward, 54, of Branford, was charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of 82-year-old Diane Golia of Branford.

SHELTON — When a New Haven police officer checked the GPS location of a stolen police vehicle in April, the Ford Explorer "pinged" at the Shelton address of Nicholas Cano, according to an arrest warrant released Friday. Stolen in North Haven on April 13, the police Interceptor model held a 9 mm department-issued handgun with a 15-round magazine in the glove box, along with extra ammunition, a stun gun and handcuffs in the trunk, the warrant says.

NEW HAVEN - A trucking business owner from Trumbull was charged by the federal government with defrauding Amazon of more than $3 million, federal officials said. A federal grand jury in New Haven returned a 13-count indictment charging Ameer Nasir, 24, with wire fraud, according to a news release Friday from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut and the FBI. Nasir was arrested Thursday and released on a $300,000 bond, the release said.

A University of Connecticut first-year student "known for her infectious humor and kindness" died unexpectedly on Tuesday, according to a message to students and her obituary. She was 18. Leeha Reddy, 18, graduated from Haddam-Killingworth High School and began attending UConn in the fall. She was an Academic Center for Exploratory Students (ACES) major at UConn with an interest in business, according to a message the school sent to students.
