HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hanford West Senior Edgar Ferrer walked us through the highlights of a barbeque grill on campus. "This is a Santa Maria grill. We have a stainless steel grates with the Hanford West logo on there," Ferrer explained. "We have doors where you can open it up, put charcoal in there."The entire thing was custom built by he and his classmates in the Welding Pathway. The three years of courses are taught by teacher Bill Chambers.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- High school senior Alex Sandoval is operating as the foreman for Duncan Polytechnical High School's construction crew. He's leading the way as they work to finish building a shed by Friday. "It's like a real world situation, you know, we're actually doing this," Alex said. They're one of 16 teams competing in the "Design Build Competition."That includes two all-star, all-female teams. Each student is part of the Career Technical Education construction pathway.

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Career Technical Education program in the South Valley is making "deposits" into students' future careers. One Valley Strong Credit Union Branch in Hanford is unique. That's because it's operated by juniors and seniors at Sierra Pacific High School, under the supervision of a branch manager. "It's a full-service branch that serves our students and staff," Teacher Kim Dodd said. Dodd runs the Business Finance Academy at the high school.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A new partnership between Fresno State and Valley Children's Hospital is enhancing professional development for nurses. Andrea Carr has always known her calling. "I always wanted to go into surgery. My mom and I used to stay up on Thursdays and watch 'ER' together after my sisters had gone to bed, so surgery and medicine have always been one of those things that I've always had an interest in," Carr said.

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Little Brady gets excited every time teacher Kate comes to visit. Brady is getting a workout, improving his gross and fine motor skills. "Brady's the best," says his dad, Andy Samuel. "He is super energetic; he just brings a smile to your face every time you see him. Brady's mother, Katie, was 12 weeks along in her pregnancy when she found out she was having a boy -- a baby with an extra copy of chromosome 21, known as Trisomy 21.
