    UNION, W.Va. (WVVA) - Students and staff at Mountain View Elementary and Middle School held a dinner for veterans with an animal adoption event Friday evening called Paws for Patriots. In honor of April being the Month of the Military Child, a spaghetti dinner was prepared for local veterans and their families as a thank you for their service. In addition to honoring those who fought for the United States, the school also wanted to include local dogs and cats looking for a home.

    CAMP CREEK, W.Va. (WVVA) - The Annual Lumberjack and Ramp Festival is returning to Camp Creek State Park Saturday, April 12. Visitors will be able to watch the thrilling competition between Lumberjacks from five states that will be representing their titles. While the competition is being held the Camp Creek State Park Foundation will be selling ramp casserole dinners. This event is one of three yearly fundraisers that is held at the park.

    PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) - The Mercer County Commission held a special meeting Monday evening in Circuit Court Judge William Sadler’s Courtroom. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss animal shelter and animal control issues in the county. The issues of not having enough animal control ordinances came to light recently when Matoaka residents spoke on the ongoing dog problem in their community.

    BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Locals and out of town visitors attending this weekend’s HopeWords Writers Conference had the chance to learn more about the history of Bluefield and Bramwell. For the last three years the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau has provided tours to the attendees, kicking off the weekend of events. Today, two groups departed from Raleigh Street Cinema’s in downtown Bluefield. One staying in the city to tour locations with significance to local Black history.
