A previously underworked speed camera has generated £1.6 million in fines after the council lowered the speed limit by 10mph. The camera, on Ringwood Road in Bournemouth, Dorset, was bringing in £3,600 a year when the speed limit was 40mph. In the first full year since the limit was reduced to 30mph the camera activated 11,594 times — a 36,000 per cent increase. By comparison, the camera recorded 32 speeding offences in 2022, 55 in 2021 and 39 in 2020. So far this year it has flashed 3,054 times.
