March 21, 2025 Construction is underway on a project to transform historic downtown buildings into a residential mixed-use development. The Cole Motor project was first announced in 2022 as part of the city’s downtown resiliency plan. Developer 1820 Ventures was selected for the revitalization project that will convert a former car factory — and later, a jail — into a new development.

March 13, 2025 Marion County residents can look forward to universal curbside recycling but the long awaited move is still a few years away. A new contract deal was approved this week. Lakeshore Recycling Systems will take over solid waste collections starting next year and phase in universal recycling in 2028. The change will impact Marion County neighborhoods based on current districts where Waste Management and Republic have been providing service.

A signature project that transforms old City Hall into a museum with an adjoining mixed use skyscraper is much more expensive than first estimated. The city is now set to loan the developer about $66 million to complete the build. When the renovation of the historic building was announced in 2023 it was estimated it would cost around $140 million. Now that price has soared to nearly $250 million.

March 10, 2025 The upkeep and improvement of roadways in the capital city is an ongoing issue. A proposed road funding formula that would better account for Indianapolis roadways is under consideration by state lawmakers. Indianapolis receives state funding through a formula that city leaders have long said is unfair to larger, urban areas. State Rep. Justin Moed (D-Indianapolis) has authored numerous bills addressing road funding over the past five years.

February 21, 2025 Indianapolis Animal Care Services continues to struggle with ongoing changes and current leadership. Kelly Diamond has been leading the agency for over a year, and was set to take on the role of director until Indianapolis City-County Council members delayed her appointment in response to community concerns. Dozens attended a Community Affairs Committee meeting this week, and some spoke out about Diamond.
