They understand the necessity of ATC but if it’s all the same to you, they’d rather not talk to controllers, thank you very much. We can relate: Talking on the radio is a skill that can take months or even years to perfect. So why put yourself at the risk of sounding silly on the radio if you don’t have to talk to ATC? Here’s a good reason: By maintaining radio silence you miss out on the services that ATC can provide to VFR pilots, such as flight following.

Peter Herr, senior pilot at flight operations for Textron Aviation, started out in aviation in 1978 when he joined Beechcraft Aircraft (now owned by Textron). He initially was hired to perform research and development before transitioning to sales. “I’m very grateful,” Herr said. “I love airplanes. It’s a wonder to me. I’m fascinated by aviation.”Potential buyers may be pilots, but not always.

The announcement caps off a lengthy search for a new home for the races and airshow after organizers announced in March 2023 that the Reno/Stead Airport in Nevada would host the final event in September 2023. That event marked RARA’s fifty-ninth year at the “Biggest Little City in the World.” Challenging economic conditions, rapid area development, and public safety were cited as reasons leading to the decision to leave Reno.

Pilots guard their logbooks carefully, but things happen. Flight bags get stolen out of cars; logbooks disappear during a move or perhaps are destroyed in an accident. Carrying your logbook with you on each flight is a habit many of us develop as student pilots. We want our flight instructor to note that precious time at the conclusion of each lesson and we dare not forget it.
