KUSD educators named 2025 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellows

Two Kenosha Unified teachers have been recognized as 2025 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation fellows. Mitch Thomas, a culture coach at Frank Elementary, and Jennifer Vena, who teaches with the Phoenix Project offered to incarcerated students, will each receive a one-time $6,000 award. Their schools will also receive $6,000. Thomas, who has been working at Frank since 2018, said it was "very validating" to be recognized with the fellowship.
First Watch restaurant chain eyes expansion in Kenosha

A Florida-based restaurant chain could soon be coming to Green Bay Road in Kenosha. First Watch, which specializes in breakfast, brunch and lunch items, is seeking to take over the site of the former HuHot Restaurant, 7214 Green Bay Road. Part of its proposal includes renovating the building's facade for a new sign and awnings.

A mix of incumbents and newcomers won School Board races across Kenosha County on Tuesday. In Kenosha Unified School District, incumbent Rebecca Stevens was the top vote-getter, with 18,839 votes, and Carl Bryan, who garnered 16,567 votes. Bryan said he is "incredibly honored and grateful to the voters of Kenosha for placing their trust in me to serve on the KUSD School Board.""Now the real work begins.

SkillsUSA is an opportunity for high school career and technical education students to showcase what they've learned and the skills they've acquired in categories ranging from photography to mechanics, engineering technology and design to extemporaneous speaking.
