Sky high water bills in Somerville leave residents confused

By Jim ClarkA large number of Somerville residents are steamed up over the water bills they received recently. Many have reported figures in the thousands of dollars – some even in the tens of thousands. It seems that as the Somerville Water and Sewer Department replaces older water meters as part of its City Wide Water Meter Replacement Project the billing becomes more accurate, and as a result certain residents are getting significantly higher bills than they used to.

McGrath Highway reconstruction project funds green lighted

By Jim ClarkFunding has been secured that will allow the start of the McGrath Highway reconstruction project. According to MassDOT, the proposed project consists of reconstruction of McGrath Highway (Route 28) between Broadway in Somerville and Rufo Rd. – 3rd St. in Cambridge. The current design proposes to remove the McCarthy Overpass and replace it with at-grade signalized intersections.

The Director noted that this survey was one of the most representative surveys undertaken in the city and had a total of 1,296 responses.

By Jim ClarkOn Saturday, July 15, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a Somerville Police officer on patrol overheard another officer transmit over the radio that he witnessed a man running out of Sun Glass Hut at Assembly Row holding several pairs of sunglasses. The officer noticed the sunglasses had price tags and theft detection devices and based on his training and experience believed the man had committed a crime.
