Duson shooting injures 1; suspect in custody

DUSON, La. (KADN) — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office confirms deputies are investigating a shooting Tuesday night on La Rue Biarritz in the Duson area. Deputies confirm one person was shot and is being treated for injuries. One person is in custody. Social media reports suggest there is still a large police presence in the area, which is a mobile home park off S. Fieldspan Road.
Louisiana Supreme Court hears arguments on sex abuse ‘lookback’ law

NEW ORLEANS (KADN) — The Louisiana Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday in an Acadiana clergy sex abuse lawsuit that will affect the outcomes of other sex abuse cases in the state. The issue being considered by the justices is a 2021 law that created a three-year ‘lookback’ window to file civil lawsuits, regardless of when the alleged abuse occurred. Previously, survivors had until they turned 28 years old to file such claims.

Third defendant pleads guilty in federal bribery case

(KADN) — A Lafayette business owner will be sentenced later this year after pleading guilty to federal charges in the wide-ranging bribery investigation involving the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Leonard C. Franques pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States. Franques is the owner of several companies, including DGL1, which marketed a series of online courses to LDWF.

Louisiana's Last Living Pearl Harbor Survivor Turning 100

The American Legion Post 225 is hosting a 100th birthday party on Sunday for Joe Richard of Church Point, who is believed to be Louisiana’s last living Pearl Harbor survivor. Richard enlisted in the Navy when he was 16 years old. Shortly after he was assigned to the USS Rigel, which was docked at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In the days after the attack, Richard helped save 33 people from the USS Arizona and three from the USS Oklahoma.
