    As Washington County continues to not be reimbursed by FEMA for contractor work after Hurricane Michael, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Chairman David Pettis said he was told the lack of payment is an error on FEMA’s end. Pettis again addressed the matter during a special BOCC meeting Wednesday, May 29. Approvals were made by FEMA, with concurrence from the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) to pave previously unpaved roads.

    A kid reportedly fell into a sinkhole at Falling Waters State Park over the Memorial Day weekend and was “safely removed,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said. A WCSO news release said they, Washington County EMS, and the Chipley Fire department responded to the incident on Saturday, May 25. The sinkhole was reportedly in a restricted part of the park.

Upcoming events include a Scholastic Book Fair held at the Chipley Library (1444 Jackson Ave.) June 17-20, giving kids who didn’t get to go to the book fair a chance during the seasonal break. Additionally, there is a Bits N Pieces Puppet Show for June 13 that all families are welcome to.

A dedication ceremony celebrating the new homeowners getting to call the residence theirs was held Thursday, Nov. 9. The home was constructed by Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with Florida Power & Light.
