Whenever there’s an analysis or discussion about how much people know about the Holocaust, the focus is often on what they don’t know. For instance, a 2018 survey of 1,350 people age 18 and older found that 11% of U.S. adults and 22% of millennials had not heard of — or were not sure if they had heard of — the Holocaust. Almost half of U.S. adults — 45% — and millennials — 49% — could not name one concentration camp or ghetto that was established in Europe during the Holocaust, the survey found.

Digging is in my nature, so I might make a few holes in the yard. The name Dachshund is actually German for “Badger Dog.” Guess this all leads to the fact I’m going to need a fenced yard and supervision until I learn where I belong. I love to play and have fun but also like nice long cuddling sessions where you scratch my ears and my tummy.

A Chipley man with several previous convictions has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found with a gun in 2020. Stacy Tyrone Blackmon, 38, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm Oct. 12, State Attorney Larry Basford with the 14th Judicial Circuit said.

NAN THOMPSONKate M. Smith Elementary School kindergartner students had quite a thrill on Oct. 31. All kindergarten students and parents had the chance to visit the Washington County Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and then, later in the day, the Florida Panhandle Technical College. The staff of the Nursing Home had all the hallways decorated with cobwebs, signs and witches’ cauldrons, from which the students got their goodies.

The reality television show “American Pickers” documents the search for historical artifacts across America and is reportedly considering coming to Florida. The tourist development councils for Washington, Holmes, and Jackson counties would like the show to come to the Panhandle and so is looking to talk to residents who might have items that could be featured in the series. “The show is looking for large, rare collections and things they have never seen before,” a news release said.
