In a game the had a bit of bite down to the last whistle, the Philadelphia Union defeated Indy Eleven on penalty kicks Wednesday night to advance to the US Open Cup Round of 16 for the first time since 2018. An early goal from Ale Bedoya and a number of timely saves from young goalkeeper Andrew Rick were the deciding factors in the midweek cup clash.

Wednesday night, and for the first time since 2018, the Philadelphia Union are set to host a US Open Cup match in front of their home fans down in Chester, PA. ”As a player, I’ve been on the winning end of big cup competitions, so I know what it means; trophies, silverware. Especially the way the format is set up this year – I think it’s 4 games to a final – and that’s our full focus for tomorrow.

Union’s 7W-1D-3L record through the first 11 games of the season has them on 22 total points, already 59.45% of the total DOOP collected in 2024, and is the best start to a season in Philadelphia Union club history.

After their second consecutive clean sheet performance and 3-0 victory against DC United last weekend, Bradley Carnell and the Philadelphia Union will look to make it three straight wins in a meeting with CF Montreal north of the border on Saturday night. After the Philadelphia Union’s 2nd consecutive clean sheet and 3-0 victory over DC United in Matchday 10, Centerback Jakob Glesnes and Goalkeeper Andre Blake have been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday. Jakob Glesnes, who played a pivotal role on both sides of the ball, opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 15th minute after placing a right-footed volley in the top corner of the net on Saturday afternoon, which was also nominated for Goal of the Matchday.
