High school student donates Valentine’s Day gift boxes to patients at Marian Regional Medical Center

Student Sophia Ferreira, 17, brought a wave of Valentine's Day cheer to the pediatric unit at Marian Regional Medical Center this week. Inspired by her own childhood experience as a patient, Ferreira donated 40 Valentine's Day-themed gift boxes, filling young patients' days with joy and setting an example of kindness. Ferreira's journey began when, at the age of 4, she underwent emergency surgery for a rare bacterial infection.

The Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation held a check-presentation event to celebrate a matching donation totaling $10,000 to procure car seats for underserved families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Marian Regional Medical Center. The Grower-Shipper Association of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties organized a matching gift campaign with their partners and donated $5,000 to the Marian Foundation.

This year’s event revenue total exceeds last year’s event outcome of $344,720. “What really makes the annual Day of Hope event so special is the incredible support Mission Hope Cancer Center patients receive from the entire community,” said Sue Andersen, president/CEO of Marian Regional Medical Center.
