    Losing a three-time individual state champion and three other back-to-back state champions is normally a recipe for a rebuilding year. Not for the Gilbert girls golf team. Even without four of their top six golfers from their 2023 and 2024 state champion teams, the Tigers found a way to three-peat during the Class 3A Iowa high school girls state golf meet on May 29-30 at the Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon.

    IOWA CITY — The Iowa gilrs high school golf season has officially concluded with the state championships taking place in all four classes between May 29 and 30In Class 4A, Waukee Northwest was up by nine strokes over Ames after Day 1, posting a 309 over 18 holes. But with windier conditions on Day 2, they were unable to hold off the Little Cyclones. Ames shot a 315 on the second day to Northwest's 325 to edge the Wolves for the 4A title by one stroke.

    IOWA CITY — When it mattered most, the Ames girls delivered on the golf course. The Little Cyclones earned their first girls state golf meet championship since winning back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010 after shooting a 633 over 36 holes on May 29-30 at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course. After returning all its top golfers from last year's sixth-place team, the Little Cyclones entered 2025 dead set on going for it all.

    Waukee Northwest girls track and field athlete Aunya Van Zetten and Ankeny boys track and field athlete Landon Pote were voted the Des Moines Register's metro-area female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 18-24. Van Zetten won female Athlete of the Week with 48% of the vote. She helped Waukee Northwest win four relays at the state track and field meet from May 22-24 in Des Moines.

    Gilbert girls track and field athlete Sarah Feddersen and Nevada boys track and field athlete Connor Kunze were voted the Ames Tribune's female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 18-24. Feddersen won female Athlete of the Week with 63% of the vote. She was a part of three victorious events for Gilbert at the state track and field meet held from May 22-24 in Des Moines. Feddersen won the 3A 1,500 on May 24 with a time of four minutes, 36.73 seconds.
