ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A preliminary report released Wednesday on the deadly plane crash in Nanwalek last month confirmed that a loose dog likely contributed to the demise of the Cessna 207 that was carrying three people. The crash killed 48-year-old pilot Daniel Bunker of Homer and 37-year-old Jenny Irene Miller of Anchorage. A second passenger, who has not yet been publicly identified, was hospitalized in Anchorage with serious injuries, authorities said.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Dan Seavey, the patriarch of the most successful racing family in the history of the Iditarod, died at the age of 87. The Iditarod announced via social media Friday that Seavey had died. Seavey never won the Last Great Race but played a pivotal role in getting the annual race started in 1973, along with Joe Redington Sr., and also helped establish the route as a National Historic Trail in 1978.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Police confirmed Monday that a body found last month was that of a 21-year-old Fairbanks man who went missing late last year. The Fairbanks Police Department confirmed Monday that the state medical examiner has identified the body as that of Devin Standifer, who was found near Eagan Avenue on April 26, months after he was last seen on Dec. 7, 2024.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A 22-year-old soldier from Anchorage died last week during a training exercise in South Carolina, Army officials in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, said Friday. Pvt. Gabriel J. Perez died during basic combat training on April 24, according to Fort Jackson media relations spokesperson Nathan Clinebelle. Perez was an active-duty soldier in training and was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The state cleared an Anchorage police officer Friday of any wrongdoing in a shooting that left a 33-year-old man dead on Tudor Road earlier this year. The Office of Special Prosecutions determined in its review that Officer Isaac Kimball was “legally justified” in using deadly force against the man, Francis Rochon, who was killed on Feb. 4 in the middle of the roadway.
