In our original article, two minor errors need corrected:(1) On page 20363, in the Materials and Methods section, under the Population Cohorts subsection, there is a wrong number given for the number of participants in the Young Finns Study (YFS). Instead of “the Young Finns Study (YFS) with 2036 participants (43 years, 55% women)”, it should be “the Young Finns Study (YFS) with 2173 participants (39 years, 55% women)”.

AbstractMetabolic dysregulation, including perturbed glutamine–glutamate homeostasis, is common among patients with cardiovascular diseases, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Using the human MESA cohort, here we show that plasma glutamine–glutamate ratio is an independent risk factor for carotid plaque progression.

We leveraged multiple population-based cohorts and data mining algorithms to investigate how ageing manifests in metabolic measures obtained from repeated collections of blood over a decade. To make it easier to interpret multivariable statistical patterns in the data, we summarized the metabolic profiles by four representative subgroups (TG-rich, TG-poor, High LDL-C and Low lipids).
