    Lamar High School will have five athletes competing in the 2025 Class 3A Track and Field State Championships on May 15-17 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood. Lamar freshman Carlin Weber is one of the top contenders in the high jump and is the #2 seed with a leap of 5-05. Myah Scott, a freshman from Salida, is #1 seed with a leap of 5-05. The 3A girl’s high jump competition is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17.

    Despite losing in the semifinals of the Class 1A District 4 Tournament last week, Holly Wildcats qualified for the regional/state tournament thanks to the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Wildcats fell to Cheyenne Wells, 5-3, in their semifinal showdown in the district tournament on Saturday, May 3 in Las Animas. Holly will head to Akron for the Region 1 Tournament on Saturday, May 10.

    Only two weeks remain in the regular season before the Lamar Thunder varsity baseball team set their sights on the start of the postseason. The Thunder sits in fifth place in the Tri-Peaks League standings and sports a 12-6 overall record.

    The Holly Wildcats baseball team tightened their grip of second place in the Class 1A District 4 standings following a 12-2 victory over the Wiley Panthers on Wednesday, April 23 in Holly. With the win, the #8 state-ranked Wildcats improved their record to 6-1 in district play and 11-6 overall. In Wednesday’s game, Holly scored three runs in the first inning, one run in the second, one run in fourth, and erupted for seven runs in the fifth.

    The Lamar Thunder baseball team currently sports a 7-3 record following a split with Alamosa on April 4 and a Tri-Peaks League win over La Junta on April 8. In their first league game of the season, Lamar paid a visit to La Junta to take on the rival Tigers on Tuesday the 8th. Lamar won a slugfest against the Tigers by the score of 18-14 in 8 innings at Potter Park. Alex Aguilar fueled the Thunder on offense as he collected four hits in five at bats.
