A former middle school guidance counselor is charged with sexually assaulting a seventh-grade student at Nathan Hale Middle School in Norwalk. According to an arrest warrant, Luisa Melchionne, 47, of New Canaan, performed sex acts on the boy inside her office – during school hours. Police said that a fellow teacher tipped off authorities in late April, after he saw explicit text messages on Melchionne's phone.

A bill that would have allowed people sue for "fertility fraud" was dropped in Hartford. It was a defeat at the state Capitol for dozens of people who say they were secretly fathered by a fertility doctor. The Legislature's Judiciary Committee dropped the bill on Monday. A lawsuit claims Dr. Burton Caldwell fraudulently impregnated at least 23 of his own patients. Several of his offspring begged lawmakers to make it easier to sue.

Among the nearly 2,000 mourners who attended longtime Sen. Joe Lieberman's funeral on Friday were longtime political allies – but also former foes. Despite their differences, each remembered a moral public servant who stuck to his principles. Rep. Rosa DeLauro met Lieberman back in the 1960s.
