PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (WAFB) - Prairieville High celebrating its first day of school and operation this year, but the football team has been established and practicing all summer long getting set for its debut season. The hurricanes certainly aren't dipping their toes in the water if you will. It's a full cannonball for long-time head coach Mike Schmitt and company as Prairieville will play 5A ball this fall. While that's a daunting challenge the Canes are excited to attack it.

ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WAFB) - St. James came up one point and twenty seconds shy of a state title last season. The Wildcats fell to Union Parish 36-35 in the closing moments of the contest. Lavanta Davis and company have to replace several key leaders who have moved on and graduated. Chief among the losses are Sportsline Player of the Year Finalist Brayden Williams and Southern Jags wide receiver Kobe Brown.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Glen Oaks Panthers are entering year two under Anthony Jones and hoping to build on a 2-8 season in 2023. Jones a 2001 graduate of Glen Oaks, played quarterback for the Panthers back in the day. The program regularly made the playoffs back in those days under Nolan Gill, but in the present Glen Oaks hasn't clinched a playoff berth since 2009. So this season the team is hoping to prove to the community that it's back to its old self. Click here to report a typo.

GREENSBURG, La. (WAFB) - The St. Helena Hawks pieced together a solid 2023 season, right about at .500, and a playoff appearance, but an early exit in the first round at the hands of Port Allen. A big point of improvement heading into 2024 is the offense. St. Helena hoping to tinker with the philosophy to help with some challenges that logistics pose.

SPRINGFIELDS, La. (WAFB) - Springfield football is on the move in 2024. The Bulldogs elevating the program from 2A to 3A this coming fall. Springfield struggled down the stretch last year and finished up at 4-7 with a first-round playoff exit at the hands of Many. The offense struggled to incorporate a consistent passing game while the defense had its issues with open field tackling.
