fire By John FerranniniLafayette Elementary School and the Lincoln Park Playground were damaged by two suspicious fires each last month. Lafayette Elementary School in the Outer Richmond neighborhood suffered damage from two fires in May. At Lafayette, the first fire occurred on May 1. It destroyed the parent teacher association’s storage container. The second, late May 18, destroyed part of the school’s playground.

By John FerranniniThe San Francisco Department of Elections confirmed on May 29 the petition to recall District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio contained 10,523 valid signatures, above the required threshold of 9,911 signatures needed. The recall was sparked by Engardio’s support of Proposition K, a measure that permanently closed the Upper Great Highway to vehicle traffic to make way for a new city park, called Sunset Dunes.

For most of his life, he was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and at the time he was elected the church’s 266th pontiff, he was the cardinal archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina, which made him the first pope from the Americas, and the first from outside Europe since the eighth century.

Upper Great Highway By John FerranniniA lawsuit challenging the closure of San Francisco’s Upper Great Highway (UGH) to vehicle traffic will be heard in a civil court in June. Matthew Boschetto, et al. v. San Francisco was filed in San Francisco County Superior Court on March 12.
