KNOXVILLE, Iowa — A southeast Iowa man is facing four charges after he accidentally shot himself in the leg. The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of North Grant Street in Knoxville, Iowa. Police responded to that location after a report of gunshots being fired from a moving vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of Payton Phillips, 27, of Knoxville. Four minutes after the shooting, Phillips arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg.

MACON, Mo. — A northeast Missouri sheriff's deputy now finds himself on the other side of the jail bars. Brody Lewis, 26, a now-former Macon County sheriff's deputy, faces four charges: three counts of domestic assault and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. According to court documents, Lewis is accused of assaulting his girlfriend on multiple occasions between mid-February 2025 and this past Monday.

GRANGER, Mo. — A two-and-a-half-year joint investigation in Scotland County ended Tuesday with a northeast Missouri man charged with 16 sex crimes against a girl. Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney says Jason Jeremiah Tague, 51, of Granger, Missouri, was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a search of his home on East Main Street in Granger.
Flames destroy 50-100 large hay bales in Adair County

ADAIR COUNTY, Mo. — Thousands of dollars’ worth of cattle feed went up in smoke Tuesday in Adair County. Between 50 and 100 large hay bales caught fire and were destroyed. It happened just before noon Tuesday on the Jeff Brawner farm on Benton Way, six miles northeast of Kirksville. The Adair County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, but Chief Jeremy Davis said Brawner told his crew that he would put out the fire himself, so firefighters left. It's unclear what sparked the blaze.
Northeast Missouri woman badly hurt when car strikes tree

NEAR GREEN CASTLE, Mo. — A northeast Missouri woman was badly hurt late Tuesday morning when her car slammed into a tree. The one-car crash happened just before 11:45 a.m. on Highway 6, three miles east of Green Castle. The state trooper at the scene told KTVO that a 61-year-old unnamed woman, from Greentop, Missouri, was westbound when her car traveled off the right side of the roadway, hit an embankment and then struck a tree.
Rollover wreck injures 2 Lancaster residents, 1 seriously

SCOTLAND COUNTY, Mo. — Two northeast Missouri residents were injured when the minivan they were in crashed and rolled over the weekend. The one-vehicle wreck happened just after 12:15 p.m. Saturday on Scotland County Route H, five miles north of Arbela, Missouri. Missouri state troopers say the minivan was driven by an unnamed 77-year-old man from Lancaster, Missouri. The van ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. The driver suffered serious injuries.
La Plata business owner, client save woman just before car explodes

NEAR COLUMBIA, Mo. — A northeast Missouri business owner and her client helped save a woman from serious injury, if not death. The close call happened Thursday on Highway 63 north of Columbia. La Plata, Missouri resident, Amanda Belfield of Take Care Transport, had picked up her passenger from the Columbia airport, and they were on their way back to the Kirksville area when they came upon slow traffic.
