12-year-old Macon boy hurt in ATV rollover wreck

NEAR MACON, Mo. — A weekend ATV wreck in northeast Missouri left an area boy injured. The rollover crash happened at 11:40 a.m. Saturday on Kasota Place, five miles north of Macon. Missouri state troopers say an ATV driven by an unnamed 12-year-old boy from Macon overturned as it traveled across uneven terrain. The child suffered minor injuries. He was flown to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
Funeral scheduled for Knox County native killed in Quincy crash

A celebration of life has been scheduled for this weekend for a Quincy man, formerly from northeast Missouri, who was killed in a car wreck last week. John Kincaid III, 29, a Knox County, Missouri, native, was involved in a fatal crash on I-172 near Quincy last Wednesday. Kincaid was a 2014 graduate of Knox County High School in Edina. According to his obituary, Kincaid was known for his kind heart, loyalty to his family and friends, and his steadfast reliability.

KEOKUK, Iowa — Southeast Iowa police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting that happened last summer, but the suspect is not charged with murder. This week, the Keokuk Police Department arrested Matthew Thomas Miller, 27, of Keokuk, on two firearms violations. The charges stem from an investigation into an altercation that led to the July 28, 2024, shooting death of Colby Deck, 27. Deck died at the scene at 510 Morgan Street in Keokuk after a half-hour of CPR.

QUINCY, Ill. — UPDATE: A homeless man, a candle, an intrusive raccoon and a burning mop are all blamed for an overnight fire at a vacant house in Quincy. The unusual chain of events happened shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday at 828 North Sixth Street. Quincy police say a homeless 47-year-old unnamed man from Quincy had a candle burning for heat on an enclosed back porch of the house when a raccoon entered the porch.
Kirksville man gets life +59 years for sex crimes against 2 girls

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A northeast Missouri man, convicted of six sex crimes involving two girls, received a life sentence, plus 59 years on Monday. Tracy Homer, 47, of Kirksville, was sentenced in Adair County Circuit Court by Judge Matthew Wilson. Wilson gave Homer life in prison on the first-degree statutory sodomy conviction. The judge sentenced the defendant to 15 years on each of three counts of second-degree child molestation.

Henry County Sheriff Richard McNamee said Friday that the person has been identified as Aaron William Ballalatak, 48, of Mt. Pleasant. The sheriff said the man crashed his SUV into a utility pole three miles southwest of Mt. Pleasant after calling 911 and reporting that he was having a medical issue.
