    NASHVILLE — It was another solid week of baseball for the Nashville Hornets as they added three more wins to their spring total since our last poll, defeating Okawville, Althoff Catholic of Belleville, and Waterloo. Now 25-1 on the season, the Hornets remain at No. 1 in our weekly poll. To show just how dominant the boys from Washington County have been, they have outscored the opposition, 220-60. The lone loss all season was to a Class 4A school in Belleville West.

    JOHNSTON CITY — Two pitchers combined for six shutout innings Tuesday to lead the Johnston City Indians baseball team to a 3-0 nonconference win over visiting Crab Orchard.     MARION -Graduating Marion High School senior Ethan Simmons became the third local athlete to accept a scholarship offer to play Men's Basketball at John A. Logan College next school year. Both Drew Barrington of Carterville and Kyrese Lukens of Herrin signed letters of intent last week. Today (Monday), it was Simmons's turn. A 6-foot-4 forward for the Wildcats, Simmons transferred to Marion from Crab Orchard after his sophomore year. He helped lead Marion to a 22-6 record this past season.

Early last week, the Lions shut out Pinckneyville, 3-0, at home and followed up Friday with a 3-0 road win at Rochester before dropping a pair of games at Chatham-Glenwood Saturday.
