High-end Rock Hill region home sales continue to shatter records. Out of three dozen million-dollar home sales in May, five of them surpassed $2 million. The most $2 million or more sales in a single month was three. That happened three times in the York, Lancaster and Chester county area, most recently in August of last year. There were 16 total sales at $2 million or more last year, double the number from 2023. Large May sales weren’t confined to homes.

Families in the Fort Mill School District will soon pay higher fees to participate in sports. The school board on Tuesday voted to raise sports fees for the first time in about 15 years in order to pay coaches higher stipends. The cost for middle and high school sports will increase this fall from $100 to $150. The fee will apply to each sport a high school student plays but only the first two sports for middle school students. Band students will also pay higher fees.

Fort Mill is poised to start a moratorium on new home or apartment projects. If finalized, the residential construction ban in the fast-growing town would run through the end of this year. “I like the word pause,” Mayor Guynn Savage said. “That’s a good way to describe it.”Fort Mill Town Council voted unanimously for the moratorium on May 19. A public hearing and second vote are required before it becomes final. Council’s next scheduled meeting is June 9, but an agenda hasn’t been posted yet.

Rock Hill dirty soda fans who’ve tried the trending Swig drink spot in Indian Land didn’t just get a beverage. They got a taste of what’s to come. Warren Norman Company announced another Swig will go into the Sharonwood Shopping Center in Rock Hill. The site at the corner of Celanese and India Hook roads is in development, with construction set to start this summer. Swig is a Utah-based drive-thru soda shop.

Rock Hill could soon get a small industrial park and more apartments in one of its most populated areas. The latest round of projects submitted to the city includes industrial development off Linkwood Road and residential growth on Glenwood Drive. Both projects would grow the city through annexation. The city Planning Commission will hear the case for each project Tuesday night.
