Each side seems to believe it has all the right answers and doesn’t need to listen to anyone else. More and more, it seems like “compromise” and “peace” have become dirty words. But don’t let the distractions keep you from your intended path. Don’t let the bad blind you to the good. Don’t let the hate win.

If you glance at the photo above my column, you may see a familiar face — but you’ll also see three folks you haven’t had a chance to meet through their work on the pages of this newspaper over the years. Their contributions have been just as important, ensuring our loyal readers have received their newspapers consistently. Two of them — Ray Cantrell and Carolyn Hilliard — were honored Friday as they retire from WV News after long and faithful careers.

This weekend, almost 200 students who will be graduating from what is now Glenville State University—as well as those who were to be hooded for their master's degrees Friday night—show the true answer. From its humble beginnings to now offering graduate-level education, Glenville State University stands as a growing institution with a renewed purpose.
