Unrest at home. War abroad. It seems people are spending more time these days finding ways to disagree rather than finding ways to make things better. Each side seems to believe it has all the right answers and doesn’t need to listen to anyone else. More and more, it seems like “compromise” and “peace” have become dirty words. But don’t let the distractions keep you from your intended path. Don’t let the bad blind you to the good. Don’t let the hate win.

If you glance at the photo above my column, you may see a familiar face — but you’ll also see three folks you haven’t had a chance to meet through their work on the pages of this newspaper over the years. But as is often the case in this business, other events developed. I chose instead to focus on the continued need to retain our best and brightest here in West Virginia.

GLENVILLE, W.Va. (WV News) — It wasn't too long ago that some West Virginia leaders wondered if Glenville State College needed to exist. This weekend, almost 200 students who will be graduating from what is now Glenville State University—as well as those who were to be hooded for their master's degrees Friday night—show the true answer. From its humble beginnings to now offering graduate-level education, Glenville State University stands as a growing institution with a renewed purpose.

As much as I’ve backed Neal Brown I don’t like the play calling on that series after the fake field goal. 3 yards? Pound the ball
