Jay Slater's family have been pictured arriving at an inquest in Preston following teenager's death in Tenerife last summer. His parents Debbie Duncan and Warren Slater, together with his older brother Zak, were present at the Coroner's Court today (May 21). The hearing was informed that the 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, died from a head injury and there was no evidence of assault.

A former boxer and dad-of-two was arrested at Manchester Airport after taking "'an offer he felt he could not refuse". Edward Nesbitt, 36, was one of two drug couriers jailed today (May 15), along with Yoke Woon, after a suitcase stuffed with 23 kilos of cannabis was intercepted at the airport. Manchester Crown Court heard how Uber driver Woon arrived with the drugs on a flight from Singapore in March.

Plumes of black smoke can be seen 'for miles' across parts of Wigan this evening after a blaze erupted earlier today (Sunday, May 11). Witnesses reported hearing a 'mini explosion' as huge plumes of black smoke were seen billowing across Platt Bridge. Pictures and video shared on social media show the clouds of smoke on as firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service respond to the incident. The M.E.N reports the plume of smoke can be seen for miles.

One man said he thought towering cloud of dust was a tornado as streets were suddenly cast in darkness. Traffic came to a standstill on Saturday afternoon as a 30 metre-high column of swirling dust ripped along a Manchester street. Local residents in the city’s Great Ancoats Street said they “froze” when they seen what they thought was a tornado. Violinist Adam Riding, 30, said: “I was going to the gym on Great Ancoats Street where there is some land the council has flattened.
