New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Researchers at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven are reporting the first mosquitoes to be trapped this season carrying the West Nile virus. The infected mosquitoes were trapped in Bridgeport on June 11. The station only launched the annual Connecticut Mosquito Management Program earlier this month.

New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - Former WTIC talk show host and longtime WTNH-TV political reporter Mark Davis has died. Davis' career in broadcasting spanned more than 50 years. Prior to joining Channel 8 as chief political reporter, Davis hosted a pair of shows on WTIC prior to his move to the TV side. He covered some of the biggest stories in the state during his tenure, including the downfall of former Governor John Rowland and the vice presidential nomination of Senator Joe Lieberman.

Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Governor Lamont has signed a measure into law cracking down on so-called street takeovers. The new law increases penalties and fines against those who take part in, organize or are even spectators of reckless driving. Such behavior, Lamont says, can result in a two-year suspension of one's drivers license after three or more violations. The new law also gives the freedom to municipalities to adopt their own ordinances against street takeovers as they see fit.

Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are charging a Brockton, Massachusetts man after they say he was clocked driving over 100 mph on a stretch of Interstate 84 on Sunday. They say just after 1:00 p.m., troopers spotted a Chevy SUV on the right shoulder by westbound exit 44. The vehicle left the area but was spotted later another trooper driving 122 MPH in a 65 MPH zone by exit 37 in Farmington.

Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - There's been reaction from some in Connecticut's congressional delegation to the Saturday strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Congressman Jim Himes, the ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, said the strikes were a clear violation of the Constitution, adding that only Congress has the power to declare war.
