    REEDLEY – Winning has been a regular part of Ahani Castillo’s softball journey, first with two championship teams at Orange Cove High and then at Reedley College. She now hopes to help build a winning tradition in Kern County. Castillo, a star on two Central Section championship teams for the Titans and a first team all-Central Valley Conference selection for RC in 2024, has signed to attend Cal State Bakersfield on a full scholarship.

    OROSI – The future Cutler-Orosi Aquatic Complex is gradually becoming a reality, and will provide an oasis for Orosi High swimmers and the community starting next year. The facility, at the site of the school’s old varsity baseball diamond on the west-central side of campus, remains on track to be open for Orosi High’s swim season in early 2025 according to Raffi Soghomonian, director of facilities/transportation operations for the Cutler Orosi Joint Unified School District.

    REEDLEY — A co-ed adult tournament at Immanuel High School quickly is developing a reputation as a go-to spot for male and female adult volleyball players. The second annual Eagles King Cup Tournament at Immanuel South Gym on June 22 attracted nine teams from the Central Valley, most from the immediate eastern Fresno and northern Tulare County regions. But it was two Bakersfield teams that grabbed the glory in 2024.

    SANGER — Two familiar schools took home championship hardware in the 10th and final Evan “Shoot” Medina Basketball Tournament over the weekend. Host Sanger High captured the boys title, the school’s second straight, while Roosevelt High won a fourth consecutive girls division championship. The Apaches were led by tournament Most Valuable Player Justin Hernandez, while Nyleigh Gregory earned the MVP award for the Rough Riders girls.

    FRESNO — The six members from Mid Valley Times region schools on the County All-Stars made their presence felt during a dominating victory in the 70th edition of the annual summer football matchup. Combined with an MVP performance from quarterback David Marquez of Central High, the County put up four unanswered touchdowns in the game’s final 25 minutes to roll to a 35-7 victory on a warm night at McLane Stadium.
