The notices are increasingly common, but still dreaded, typically posted at the top of a company's website and making for an alarming – but necessary – alert for consumers. The latest example: A "data incident notice" posted at the top of Catholic Health's website. "A Catholic Health vendor, Serviceaide, experienced a data breach resulting in limited patient information being exposed online," reads the alert.

Kaleida Health and the unions representing about 8,000 of its workers need a little more time to iron out a collective bargaining agreement. The two sides have agreed to extend the current three-year labor contract until 11:59 p.m. June 14. The agreement was previously set to expire this Saturday, May 31. The extension comes at a key time, as the unions – 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and Communications Workers of America – plan to soon present an economic package to Kaleida.

Ashley Kern knew she wanted to care for people in their most difficult moments. She took nursing classes during her junior and senior years at Maryvale High School. She dreamed of a career as a nurse. But late one Saturday night in March 2016 – three months shy of high school graduation – her life changed forever. While leaving a party in Buffalo, she was struck by gunfire intended for someone else. Ashley, at 17, was paralyzed from the chest down.
