Buffalo-based Catholic Health System, the second-largest health system in Western New York, has agreed to pay nearly $3.3 million to resolve accusations that it made payments to non-employee physicians to induce patient referrals. The settlement, announced Friday by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, resolves claims brought in a whistleblower lawsuit filed nearly five years ago by Gary Tucker, the former CEO of Catholic Health's Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
