    BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo has officially renamed the casino at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in honor of the late Joyce Wilson Nixon/ Nixon was a longtime community leader and advocate for youth. The facility will now be known as the Joyce Wilson Nixon Casino. Acting Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon made the announcement Wednesday, calling Nixon “the heart of this community” and highlighting her decades of service.

    NEW YORK — U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is once again pushing legislation to combat food deserts across the country by reintroducing a proposal that would provide $50 million annually to support grocery store development in underserved communities. During a virtual press conference on Tuesday, Gillibrand outlined her Healthy Food Financing Initiative Reauthorization Act, which seeks to boost access to affordable, nutritious food in areas where grocery stores are few and far between.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Cheektowaga man has admitted to causing the death of another driver. Alan P. Bulera, 49, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Erie County Court to one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree. The crash happened August 11, 2024. Investigators said Bulera was driving his SUV at a high rate of speed east on Clinton Street in West Seneca when he rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Borden Road and Clinton Street.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you travel the Kensington Expressway on Wednesday, there may be some delays due to crews working. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) says they will be closing the right lane of the ramp from the westbound Kensington Expressway (State Route 33) to the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) in Buffalo to replace the crash barrels at the intersection. The right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 18.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Amherst Police Department is investigating a crash with injuries near the intersection of Maple Road and N. Bailey Avenue. The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Police have closed the intersection while they continue their investigation.   Police are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes. Investigators are also looking for anyone with video of the accident or information to contact the Amherst Police Department at (716)-689-1311.
