Winnipeg Jets Playoff Schedule released. Game forces concert change

True North Sports and Entertainment and the NHL have revealed details about the Winnipeg Jets playoff schedule. Game One of the playoffs for the Jets will be on Saturday at 5pm against the St. Louis Blues. And that has forced True North to make a sudden change to an upcoming concert. The Bachman Turner Overdrive concert scheduled for Saturday has been now postponed by a day, and will instead go forward on Sunday at Canada Life Centre.
Winnipeg police shoot, kill suspect after officer stabbed in the throat

A Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officer is recovering after he was stabbed in the throat Sunday evening. The incident unfolded near a bus shack at the Unicity shopping centre. Police said officers were in the area as part of the WPS retail theft initiative. Then, just after 5 p.m., an emergency transmission came into the police communication centre from a plain clothes unit at the mall. They reported an officer had been stabbed in the throat and a male suspect had been shot.

Going to the mailbox to check for letters and packages is a daily ritual for many of us, but not for people living at a Manitoba Housing complex in Winnipeg. They're cut off from their mail. "For 18 months now, we have not received any mail at all," said resident Jonathan Kotyk. "Canada Post won't deliver it." Kotyk said after thieves broke into the mailboxes last year, a metal fence was installed. It prevents criminals and residents alike from accessing the community mailbox.

Remembrance Day is just around the corner; however, one Manitoba family says their fallen veteran isn't being remembered - at least not by the Canadian government. Now the family is looking for that to change. Jim McMullin’s family has a long history with the Canadian military. His father served, he served, as did his older brother Marcellus. "He called me and said ‘Jim, I'm being posted overseas. We're forming up a platoon in Quebec,’" Jim said.
Olympic medalist Skylar Park returns to hero's welcome

A huge crowd was at the Winnipeg airport Monday night to welcome Winnipeg's Skylar Park home after the Olympian won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Games. On Monday evening, she returned home from Paris to an adoring crowd, and she didn't come empty handed -- she brought her bronze medal with her. Park won the medal in taekwondo in the women's 57 kilogram event. The Olympic medalist says she has an incredible community of people supporting her.
'We've come a long way': Restoration underway in Winnipeg for Cold War jet

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is working to restore a Cold War-era jet to its former glory. For more than a year, volunteers have been working in a hangar to restore an F-86 Sabre, a fighter jet made by Canadair that flew for NATO. "For a period of time in the 50s and early 60s, this thing owned the skies," said Marsh Pettitt, head of restoration with the aviation museum. This particular plane was built in 1958 and was later sold to Germany in the 1970s.

The number of million dollar homes in Winnipeg is growing. Currently, there are more than a hundred homes on the market in Winnipeg with an asking price above a million dollars. Ed Dale, second generation real estate agent, says in his father's day, million dollar homes were rare in Winnipeg. But now, he's listing two or three himself. "There’s been a significant shift in that market,” Dale said.
Ojibwe language version of Star Wars to hit Winnipeg theatres

Star Wars: A New Hope is rocketing back into theatres – in a completely new way. For the first time ever, Star Wars has been translated and re-dubbed into Ojibwe. "To translate all these futuristic terms into our language, which is very ancient, that was a huge challenge," said Pat Ningewance the lead translator for the project.
Manitoba Hydro restarting international consulting business

Manitoba Hydro is getting back into the international consulting game. On Monday, the Kinew government announced it was resuming operations for Hydro's international consulting business, Manitoba Hydro International (MHI). "This will bring in another source of revenue for Manitoba Hydro, keeping it public, and keeping rates low for you," said Adrien Sala, minister responsible for Manitoba Hydro. Manitoba Hydro International, a subsidiary of Manitoba Hydro, started in 1998.
'It's timeless': Historic Second World War plane stops in Winnipeg

A historic World War II plane once left for dead in a Northwest Territories lake is flying once again. A PBY-5A Canso restored by the Fairview Aircraft Restoration Society has stopped at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada on a cross-Canada tour. The Cansos were used for anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, air-sea rescue and cargo transport during the Second World War. This particular plane first flew in 1943.
