Two Houston-area golfers rose above the competition at the UIL state championships in Georgetown over the past two weeks, claiming individual golds with strong performances. Lake Creek senior Addie Surber won the Class 5A girls title last week at Legacy Hills Golf Club after shooting rounds of 72 and 68, respectively. Her two-day total of 140 tied Megan Lee of Frisco Independence, but Surber delivered an eagle on the first playoff hole to earn the victory.

The Class 5A and Class 2A running events at the track and field state championships have been postponed to Saturday morning at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, the University Interscholastic League announced. The postponed events were supposed to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, but forecasted inclement weather forced the UIL to make the schedule change. Those events will now begin at 10:10 a.m. Saturday and run in the original order.
