    Veteran court clerk Sue Houson has hung up her gown after more than four decades. The 62-year-old described herself as a 'naive' 18-year-old when she started working for the civil and county courts in 1981. But when the courts amalgamated she became a clerk in the criminal courts, a job she has enjoyed for the last 29 years. The highlight of her career happened a few years ago when she was the clerk in the first murder trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

    Families living near an arson-hit derelict house believed to be one of the oldest in Stoke-on-Trent have called for something to be done with the site. Residents in Smallthorne say Ford Green House on Ford Green Lane, which dates to the 19th century, has been empty for years and has become an eyesore. It has become a place where youths hang out has been set on fire on numerous occasions.

    Families living on a residential street and calling for something to be done to stop cars using it as a cut-through to a new supermarket. Residents in Richard Woodcock Way, Alsager, have seen a marked increase in the amount of traffic using their road to get to and from the new Sainsbury's on the outskirts of the South Cheshire town. They say the road is supposed to be accessed by residents only but shoppers and commuters are using it as a shortcut.

    A new takeaway and restaurant offering customers a 'unique' dining experience has opened in Stoke-on-Trent. Zaika, which means taste, has opened at Snow Hill, Shelton, and specialises in Desi street food as well as pizzas, burgers, kebabs and curries. Owner Muhammed Waqas, 36, of Newcastle, told StokeonTrentLive: "Hopefully it will become a destination takeaway and restaurant in the city. What we are offering is unique. Some of the food on the menu, our curries, I know they are on point.

    Music lovers queued from the early hours to buy new releases on Record Store Day. The annual event celebrates the unique culture of record stores and Rubber Soul Records in Marsh Street South, Hanley, was one of 270 stores taking part across the country. Owner Rob Barrs, aged 49, treated customers to oatcakes, a brew and a slice of cake, made specially for the day. Rob told StokeonTrentLive: "I got here just before 6am and the first guy was an hour before me. "It is my busiest day of the year.
