A man sought by authorities in connection with a weekend protest in Paramount over an ICE raid was taken into custody Wednesday after a bizarre collision involving federal agents on a Boyle Heights street. The collision was reported just before 11 a.m. in the 3700 block of Whittier Boulevard in the community east of downtown Los Angeles. Security camera video from a nearby business showed the white Mercedes Benz pull up to a stop sign at an intersection.

Homeland Security Investigations officers were conducting "wellness checks" Monday on children who arrived unaccompanied in the United States when they visited two Los Angeles Unified School District campuses, a department spokesperson said Thursday. The LAUSD said that people who identified themselves as employees with the Department of Homeland Security showed up Monday at two elementary schools, but were not allowed entry.

A small whale that drew crowds of people after consecutive sightings in the Long Beach Harbor has died, officials confirmed Sunday. The cause of death is still under investigation. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration took tissue samples from the deceased whale to conduct exams and determine the possible causes of death. "Sometime in the night, it came out and went up this way, got stuck and passed away," said Justin Viezbecke with NOAA.

About 1,500 truckloads per day will haul debris starting Monday from neighborhoods in the Altadena area destroyed by the January wildfire. About 2.5 million tons of debris from 9,000 properties will be hauled by large dump trucks to Lario Park in the Duarte area, where protests have been held over use of the location. The trucks will travel three different routes to the sites.

A magnitude-3.7 earthquake in the Malibu area Friday night caused shaking in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Widely felt shaking was reported just before midnight in Malibu, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, South Bay communities, Long Beach, the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles. A second quake in the Malibu area was reported early Saturday morning.

Winds will gain strength Monday when a red flag warning goes into effect for parts of Southern California ahead of an more severe fire weather warning as two large wildfires burn in Los Angeles County. The red flag conditions return after a weekend when winds diminished, allowing firefighters to increase containment of the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, two of the most destructive wildfires on record in California. The fires started Jan. 7 during a powerful Santa Ana windstorm.
