Metro to close G Line Station in Van Nuys for bridge project

Metro's G Line Station in Van Nuys will close Friday for an improvement project that will add bridges over streets along the San Fernando Valley bus line. The station, parking lot and nearby bike path will close for three years as Metro starts construction of aerial bridges over Van Nuys Boulevard and Vesper Avenue. The project aims to reduce bus travel times, increase capacity and improve safety between North Hollywood and Chatsworth, Metro said.
About 1,500 truckloads of debris per day to be removed from Eaton Fire area

About 1,500 truckloads per day will haul debris starting Monday from neighborhoods in the Altadena area destroyed by the January wildfire. About 2.5 million tons of debris from 9,000 properties will be hauled by large dump trucks to Lario Park in the Duarte area, where protests have been held over use of the location. The trucks will travel three different routes to the sites.

A juvenile hall in Downey, long criticized for allegations of violence inside and operational issues will stay open despite a state order to shut down. This comes after after housing conditions were found unsuitable for minors, but Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall said it will continue to house nearly 250 detainees. The juvenile hall has been through many inspections in the past year, the most recent being in October, when the hall failed a screening.

A resident called 911 and hid in an upstairs bedroom closet Thursday night when a group of intruders broke into a Tarzana home. Around 11:30 p.m., someone entered the home surrounded by a wall in the 5700 block of Shirley Avenue in the San Fernando Valley community through a window. The homeowner told police she called 911 after witnessing the break-in, then hid in the bedroom closet. The intruders left before police arrived. It was not immediately clear whether anything was stolen.
