Napa park to host back-to-back disc golf tournaments

Napa’s Skyline Wilderness Park will be host to the 30th annual Vintage Cup disc golf tournament, taking place in two segments happening later this month and the first weekend in March. The tournament begins with a two-day event set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25, that is expected to bring hundreds of participants to the park’s course for a sport sometimes also referred to as Frisbee golf.

Connor Grongora heard all of the commotion. The first installment of the “Big Game,” the boys basketball showdown earlier this season between Napa and Vintage at the Grizzlies’ home gym, ended in thrilling fashion and gave Grongora and the visiting Crushers memories they wanted to quickly forget. His valiant shot for the win that came up just short is a painful, yet ordinary experience for any ultracompetitive athlete. But for Grongora and the rest of his team, it was so much more.

Despite the Grizzlies dominating most of the game — leading by as much as 11 at one point — the Crushers made a late push and the deficit was all of sudden cut to one after senior Vintage guard Connor Gongora knocked down a clutch three from the right corner.
