Napa’s Skyline Wilderness Park will be host to the 30th annual Vintage Cup disc golf tournament, taking place in two segments happening later this month and the first weekend in March. The tournament begins with a two-day event set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25, that is expected to bring hundreds of participants to the park’s course for a sport sometimes also referred to as Frisbee golf.

Connor Grongora heard all of the commotion. The first installment of the “Big Game,” the boys basketball showdown earlier this season between Napa and Vintage at the Grizzlies’ home gym, ended in thrilling fashion and gave Grongora and the visiting Crushers memories they wanted to quickly forget. His valiant shot for the win that came up just short is a painful, yet ordinary experience for any ultracompetitive athlete. But for Grongora and the rest of his team, it was so much more.

After Thursday’s boys and girls basketball games in Justin-Siena’s Clarke Gym, one thing has become potently clear — the league race will run through the Braves. The Justin-Siena teams took on this week’s gauntlet of a slate with high expectations and delivered. The boys and girls picked up dominant victories Thursday in encore performances following Tuesday’s wins against Petaluma, proving that the school’s basketball program is clicking on all cylinders.

Napa’s boys basketball team has done nothing but make leaps this season. The Grizzlies, who have already more than doubled their win total from last season through the first 18 games, are benefiting from a few important factors for any team. Hard work. Improvement. Possibly, most of all, it’s been growth.
