RADCLIFF, Ky. — A Hardin County student is facing criminal charges after district officials say they brought a weapon to school on Monday. The incident briefly placed North Hardin High School on a hard lockdown around 2:30 p.m. No students were allowed to leave their classrooms and all students and staff were secure, a district spokesperson said.

ASHLAND, Ky. — Two sons of the Country Music Highway will co-headline a music festival that’s moving to eastern Kentucky for the first time. Healing Appalachia has been held in West Virginia over the last five years, but this year’s festival will be held at the Boyd County Fairgrounds in Ashland, Ky. on Sept. 19-20. Although the full 2025 lineup has yet to be announced, Kentucky’s own Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton have already been announced as co-headliners.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Community leaders across Kentucky are mourning the death of Pope Francis, who served as the head of the Catholic Church for the past 12 years. Francis, 88, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, died Monday. He was the first pope born or raised outside of Europe in over 1,000 years and was considered a more liberal pope than his predecessor, facing controversy from the more conservative elements in the church for his stances on the LGBTQ+ community.

COLUMBIA, Ky. — A Kentucky community is mourning the loss a young boy killed in car crash on Easter. Skyler Huckaby, an 8th-grade student at Adair County Middle School, died following a crash Sunday morning. In a social media post, the school district remembered Huckaby as a "bright and kind student, well-loved by classmates, teachers and staff. "His presence in our halls brough energy and joy, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him," Superintendent Jason Faulkner said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s the end of an era as the Louisville Zoo bids farewell to its two beloved elephants, Mikki and Punch. Last March, the zoo announced the pair would be moving to an elephant sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee. The sanctuary has more than 3,000 acres of land to roam on and about a dozen other elephants already living there. The move was necessary to support the aging elephants’ needs, officials said.
