OMAK — One of the first barrel race events of the summer season kicked off last week, June 11, at the Stampede Rodeo Grounds in Omak. The Boots and Saddle Barrel Racing Club kicked off their summer with a three-event evening last Tuesday with the youngsters starting the night off with barrels.

OKANOGAN — Purchases and pins headlined the latest Fair Advisory Committee meeting, Feb. 1, for the Okanogan County Fair. A number of purchase approvals were made for various barn superintendents and other fair staff as the six-month mark for the fair comes near. ShoWorks, a popular exhibitor and entry management system for state and county fairs across the country, was renewed for the 2024 County Fair, however the licensing for the software was not included.

BREWSTER – The boys basketball team at Brewster had a short, though high-impact, week of games against Lake Roosevelt and then Quincy last weekend. First, on Friday, the Bears traveled to Coulee Dam to take on the Raiders. “We went in to Lake Roosevelt Friday with some hope of playing well and giving ourselves a chance,” Brewster head coach Michael Taylor said. “That effort was quickly defeated.”Taylor cited poor defense and a high turnover rate in his team’s 90-56 loss.

COUER D’ALENE, Idaho — A select number of Okanogan County wrestlers competed at the 52nd annual Tri-State Wrestling Tournament at North Idaho College in Couer d’Alene, Dec. 15-16. The tournament is a high-octane event that seeks to pit top wrestlers from the Pacific Northwest into an early season regional tournament. Entering teams are generally by invite and only allow for partial teams. To bring a full team to the tournament, schools must have placed in the top 28 for team score in the year prior.
