Last week in the Columbia Journalism Review, Bill Grueskin wrote about a disturbing case at Stanford University. While covering campus protests over Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza, a student journalist for the Stanford Daily named Dilan Gohill was arrested along with members of Students Against Apartheid in Palestine who had illegally occupied a building. Gohill was not himself a protester, but a reporter doing his job.

He begins by conflating academe with progressivism generally, reading a set of conservative electoral victories as rebukes of the culture of higher education.

AbstractReproductive inequality, or reproductive skew, drives natural selection, but has been difficult to assess, particularly for males in species with promiscuous mating and slow life histories, such as bonobos (Pan paniscus) and chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). Although bonobos are often portrayed as more egalitarian than chimpanzees, genetic studies have found high male reproductive skew in bonobos.
