MANCHESTER - The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, one of the largest taxpayers in Manchester, has been under the ownership of Namdar Realty Group for around a month. But it only owns most of the mall. Namdar does not own the two large anchor units currently occupied by Macy's, totaling 273,500 square feet, nor the 123,800-square-foot JCPenney unit and the 147,300-square-foot building formerly home to Sears.

SOUTH WINDSOR — The Town Council has approved a $158.3 million town and school budget for the upcoming fiscal year, reducing the Board of Education's budget request by $1.35 million despite concerns on how it could impact the growing student population. The budget, approved along party lines, is a 4.26% increase over the current spending plan and roughly $955,000 less than the town manager's initial proposed budget.

SUFFIELD - The owners of a dog who killed a woman in 2019 have been ordered to pay more than $76,000 for outstanding boarding fees as the euthanization case remains in appeal. A Superior Court judge Monday upheld the boarding fees for Dexter, a pit bull/pointer mix owned by Suffield residents Neil and Annie Hornish that has been impounded and quarantined at River Valley Animal Center for more than five years.

MANCHESTER - A national pickleball franchise plans to open a new Manchester location, its first in the state, near the end of 2025. Pickleball Kingdom recently announced that it would open a 30,681-square-foot facility at 169 Hale Road in a unit next to the upcoming Lava Island trampoline park, also opening its first Connecticut location this year. The building is part of a shopping plaza that includes Kaoud Rugs, World Market and Crazy Hot Deals.
