The Pensions Regulator (the "Regulator") has updated the questions for Defined Benefit ("DB") and Hybrid schemes to answer in this year's Scheme Return (which will need completing by 31 March 2024). As well as detailed additional questions about a scheme's leveraged liability driven investment ("LDI") arrangements, schemes must provide information about their fiduciary managers, investment consultancy providers and Additional Voluntary Contributions ("AVC") providers.

On 24 April 2023, The Pensions Regulator (TPR) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) each issued guidance for UK defined benefit (DB) pension schemes and their managers on Liability Driven Investment (LDI) strategies: TPR's guidance is here, and the FCA's guidance is here. The new TPR and FCA guidance follows the volatility crisis in the UK gilts market in late September 2022 and the statements issued at the time by the two regulators (see our previous briefing).

Following a protracted consultation process, each of the EU and the UK has now finalised its revised requirements for trade reporting under the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation ("EMIR") following the revision of EMIR in 2019 ("EMIR Refit"). All EU or UK users of derivatives will be impacted by these new trade reporting requirements.
