Nothing quite cures the pain of a U.S. Open beatdown at Oakmont like TPC River Highlands. This week’s Travelers Championship, held at the par-70 course in Cromwell, Conn., consistently produces some of the lowest 18- and 72-hole scores of the season, and Thursday’s opening round was no different. Scottie Scheffler and Austin Eckroat both shot an eight-under 62 to grab the first-round lead in the final Signature Event of the season. Wyndham Clark, Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley all added 64s.

Former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark has apologized for damaging property in one of golf’s most historic locker rooms during last week’s U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, Pa.Clark, 31, bogeyed the final hole of his second round on Friday, missing the cut by a stroke. Clark reportedly damaged two lockers afterwards, news that was first reported by Tron Carter of No Laying Up and later confirmed by GOLF.com.

The most plugged-in man in the NFL is making his golf broadcasting debut at this week’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. Adam Schefter broke the news on ESPN’s “Unsportsmanlike” on Tuesday, although at the time saying he was still waiting for a featured group assignment for Thursday morning. ESPN+ has PGA Tour streaming rights, which is where golf fans can find early tournament coverage and featured group streaming well before (and during) the TV broadcast kicks off.

Before he was a U.S. Open champion on Sunday, J.J. Spaun told his wife they should make a quick one-night trip to New York City en route to the Travelers Championship, which tees off today in Cromwell, Conn. She wasn’t convinced, although turns out that trip became basically mandatory anyway. Spaun closed the 2025 U.S. Open with a two-over 72, finishing one under overall and beating Robert MacIntyre by two. Since then it’s been a whirlwind.

J.J. Spaun might be in New York City right now (or on to Connecticut!), but we’re still thinking about Oakmont, Spaun’s incredible finish and his first major title. In case you don’t remember, Spaun, who a year ago was questioning if he was even going to continue in pro golf, started Sunday tied for second and one off the lead held by Sam Burns.

From the archives.... The last time the U.S. Open was at Oakmont, in 2016, it was the site of Dustin Johnson's major breakthrough — and a bizarre rules controversy that loomed over Sunday's final round. An oral history of that crazy day. https://t.co/gErhkCTYJn

We got a tour of Oakmont's clubhouse ahead of next week's U.S. Open, and there are some pretty cool nuggets in here, along with the story of how pros nearly boycotted an Oakmont U.S. Open (https://t.co/lqjOLgLtlS) Full video: https://t.co/SgtuICS5t0
