What is the best way to let someone know they are doing a good job? Walking out of the Giant Center fresh off a loss is one of the harsh realities of the PIAA Wrestling Championships. Call it a thorn in the side, burr in the saddle or itch that can’t be scratched, a last-match loss can be plain miserableBut for four Times Area wrestlers, it wasn’t their reality. kAmqC@@<=J? w6?CJ[ u2:E9 v=2576=E6C[ v2G:? vC66? 2?5 w2J56? *24@G:6==@\p?5CFD 564:565 E@ =62G6 w6CD96J @? Zoey Haines was arguably the most dominant wrestler in the PIAA Girls’ Championships. The Gettysburg senior won by pin in all four of her bouts, needing just over five minutes of total time to do so. Only one of her foes made it out of the first period, and none got off their back after falling into her vice-like cradle. And she did not give up a single point in the entire tournament. kAm}@H[ :>28:?6 7@C 2 >@>6?E :7 J@F H:==[ ;FDE 9@H F?DE@AA23=6 w2:?6D H@F=5 92G6 366? :7 D96 H2D @?

Jenny Gautreau made a freshman mistake, but it was one that upperclassmen have made as well. Her error? She voluntarily chose to go under Zoey Haines. kAmv2FEC62F[ 2? ~H6? y] #@36CED 7C6D9>2? It was a night of firsts for the Gettysburg Warriors in Hershey. All four of Gettysburg’s state qualifiers logged their first career wins in the PIAA Championships at Giant Center. Those clutch efforts not only served to break the ice, but also kept the quartet in contention for Class 3A medals when the tournament resumes today.
