WINCHESTER — One day, “Dementia Friendly” stickers will be in the windows of the shops, restaurants, medical practices and other buildings of the Northern Shenandoah Valley that understand how to best interact with a visitor who has dementia. That’s thanks to a new local initiative, Dementia Friendly Blue Ridge, which will soon bring the dementia “dos and don’ts” to various sectors of the community. “It’s highly needed,” DementiaMatters Executive Director Sue Vantine said.

WOODSTOCK – Clarke County High School girls' soccer coach Ray Hawkins was a little concerned how his team would play on Monday, but his team put his fears to rest. The Eagles came out strong early and beat Central 3-1 in a big Bull Run District contest, which was played in the rain the majority of the match. Clarke County (3-5, 3-0 district) completed a season sweep of the Falcons (6-2, 4-2). “It was a real solid team effort,” said Hawkins, whose team last played on April 8.

BERRYVILLE — The Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority (CEA) wants you to take a hike. Literally. It has developed a flier titled “Take a Hike!” detailing a dozen trails — at locations both in and near the county — for people with varying levels of hiking skills. The trails range from short, flat ones that are easy to traverse to paths that are longer and more challenging. Accompanying the details is a map showing where the trails are located. Some of the trails are well-known.
