A new enterprise is set to draw dollars into the community while also offering entertainment and opportunity to residents and tourists. The Gettysburg Film Commission, with local businesswoman Kris Webb at the helm, is set to put Gettysburg on a new map, one designed to draw film crews to the area. Webb is no stranger to fulfilling the role of film commissioner.

Santa visits New Oxford, ready for Christmas Eve flight

Even though it’s his busiest time of year, Santa Claus is carving out time in his tight schedule to visit various villages to light Christmas trees and chat with children, such as he did last Saturday evening in New Oxford. The Nov. 25 trip from the North Pole to New Oxford went off without a hitch, but the lack of snow caused a bit of a tricky landing, Santa said. “There was no snow for a landing” on Center Square, Santa said. “So, I landed at the fire station and rode in on a fire truck,” he said.
Church dedication of new site set for Saturday

A growing church invites the community to see its new home during a dedication service this weekend. Jireh Independent Baptist Church is opening the doors to its new worship center at 104 N. Main St., Biglerville, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, for a special service followed by food and fellowship, said Pastor Gregg Keckler.
Lions continue Orange Car tradition in New Oxford

Faithful to the tradition of serving the community, Lions from various clubs have once more banded together during this holiday season to bring the Orange Car to Center Square New Oxford. The Orange Car is not just the fundraiser of one Lions Club, but an entity unto itself, the Lions Club Orange Car Zone 1A, explained Lisa Griffie, secretary of the New Oxford Lions Club. “It’s Lions from New Oxford, Hanover, West Manheim, East Berlin and Littlestown,” said Griffie.
'A Gettysburg Christmas' world premiere at Majestic

What began as scribblings at a kitchen table is set to shine on the silver screen when Majestic Theater hosts the world premiere of “A Gettysburg Christmas” later this month. Several years in the making, “A Gettysburg Christmas” will show for the first time to a limited, invited audience at the Majestic Theater on Nov. 27, before being offered to the community at-large the following weekend at the seminary’s Valentine Hall, said Bo Brinkman, the man behind the movie.
Fire destroys Bendersville home, 2 transported to hospital

Fire destroyed a home in Bendersville and two people were transported for medical care Saturday afternoon, said Bendersville Fire Chief Jeff Kime. Fire was showing on two sides of the home at 132 Kime Ave., when the first firefighters arrived on the scene and found a woman in cardiac arrest lying in the lawn, according to Kime. Although the coroner was initially dispatched, the woman, in her 60s, was revived by emergency personnel, Kime said.
Signed "Gettysburg" movie script stolen during anniversary celebration

An original script for the movie “Gettysburg,” signed by the cast members, went missing from a weekend display at the Adams County Historical Society (ACHS), said Andrew Dalton, ACHS executive director. “Someone just picked it up off the table,” Dalton said. ACHS hosted a celebration in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the film “Gettysburg,” which included many of the movie actors’ attendance.
