I know what you’re thinking. Our bimonthly psych-rock column is long overdue a reappearance from Miley Cyrus. Don’t mention the date as it’ll make me feel ancient but the last time we checked in with the Hannah Montana superstar, she’d been trying to reinvent herself using The Flaming Lips on a loose concept album about deceased animals and inebriation.

FEATURES How Walter Verdin went from Eurovision Flop to Belgian Avant-Pop Icon By JR Moores · April 10, 2025 When Pas De Deux won the Belgian heats to represent their nation at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, a large proportion of the TV studio audience reacted to the announcement by booing and heckling. Then the band launched into their winning submission, “Rendez-Vous”— only to be greeted with further jeers. Many people walked out in disgust.

Five albums in for the five-pronged psych rockers and that, by my maths, has them crying “Wee! Wee! Wee!” all the way home. But they haven’t done that. If anything they’ve pushed further afield than ever before, enlisting legendary producer, rapper, and one half of Run The Jewels (El-P) for an eviscerating verse on Death Hilarious’s centre-piece ‘Glib Tongued’.

With greater venom than Tom Hardy wrapped in symbiotic gunk, Al Jourgensen has spent an entire career slagging off his early music. He still refuses to even utter the title of Ministry’s 1983 debut album, With Sympathy, let alone listen to what he calls a “sonic abortion” which he believes to be full of “fucking drivel”. He can never allow himself to enjoy its Heaven 17-esque bops because, for Jourgensen, that record is associated too closely with memories he has literally described as traumatic.

Ooh! … And there’s a mention of Off The Ground in the latest column from the venerable Bob Stanley, who makes an impressive case… but is still wrong. 😉 https://t.co/QMIH0POTDT

Got a few reviews, plus singles roundup (as usual) and “Psych Collector” column in the latest issue of Record Collector. I’m told this description of The Fall has already raised a smile… 🎶 @RecCollMag @CherryRedGroup https://t.co/ZspnSDVLJZ

Checking the local gig listings and have discovered the conceptual amphibian-based doom band FROGLORD. Are you aware of them @HarrySword @DigitalDanSolo ?? 🐸🐸🐸 Wonder if McCartney is a fan? If Helter Skelter and We All Stand Together had a baby... https://t.co/ErRBEdLUMz
