SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- High school teacher Kevin Guzman did something different for his lesson on the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon: he let his students teach part of the course. "I brought in some of our Vietnamese students in to share the stories of their grandparents and their parents," said Guzman, an ethnic studies teacher at Andrew Hill High School in San Jose.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The Vietnam War may have ended 50 years ago with the fall of Saigon, but for veteran Dennis Fernandez the memories are still very vivid in his mind, especially his arrival at Bien Hoa Air Base. "I saw action as soon as we landed in Vietnam. We got off the plane, and we're being rocketed, so I was scared to death. I thought I just landed in hell," said Fernandez, who began his tour of duty in 1968, at the height of U.S. military involvement in the conflict.

That includes the posole verde, a green stew said to have originated in the Mexican state of Guerrero, where the owners are from.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco's Chinatown is full of history, but none as important as what happened in 1873 in the corner of Sacramento Street and Grant Avenue. "You see that sign, 'Camera Zone?' That is the location," says David Lei, board member of the Chinese Historical Society. He's pointing at the location where Wong Kim Ark was born. His life became the story of birthright citizenship as we know it today.
