Qatar 3-1 JordanQatar successfully defended their Asian Cup crown after beating Jordan 3-1 at Lusail Stadium where Akram Afif converted three penalties to become the tournament's top scorer as the hosts won their continental second title. Jordan were playing in their first Asian Cup final and seeking their first major trophy, but it was Qatar who prevailed in front of 86,492 fans including Qatar's ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

The Championship's leading scorer Sammie Szmodics was again among the goals as John Eustace's first game in charge of Blackburn Rovers ended with a 3-1 win over Stoke City. Szmodics - who was called up to Republic of Ireland squads during Stephen Kenny's tenure but has yet to be capped – plundered his 22nd goal of the campaign with a brace from Tyrhys Dolan.
