The event began with a thrilling musical performance by a rapper and Denver local, Sir Devon, who performed an entertaining set. With amazing beats and heavy audience interaction, Sir Devon kicked the night off right. Presenting a beguiling showing was designer, Tyne Hall.

Cherry Creek’s Room and Board, an upscale furniture store, exemplified the theme of “All Things Luxury” for the first night of Color of Fashion Season IV, Mélang. First to grace the runway was fashion brand OULA, a black and female-owned company known for its vibrant colors, ethically sourced textiles, and small-batch fashions made in Los Angeles and Denver. OULA celebrated its tenth anniversary with a brilliant collection featuring retro-inspired designs made from vibrant African wax fabric.

There was no chance life could survive here. The planet oozed toxicity. A poisonous glowing green liquid hung from the center, looping and pooling over itself and splashing along the crust. It wept, cracked in two like a giant egg. Even its several small moons were wrong, their perforated bodies danced lightly along the atmosphere. Satellites swirled above the place, remnants of a past long since extinct. I scanned them for communication signals through my watch.

Kayli Cottonwood is the sole creator of the 7-foot-tall, 4-foot-wide sculpture on display at the Center for Visual Art. The display makes the piece even larger, reaching 9 feet in height. Their creation culminated in two years spent actively obtaining cottonwood branches and nine months of assembly time. “What Have We Lost” has no solid connections, plastics, or artificials. Only three materials are used: cottonwood, brass, and steel, all to highlight the beauty of nature on its own.

Several student journalists at The Metropolitan were honored by the Society of Professional Journalists at the Regional Conference for Region 9 on April 13. Among the quiet chaos is Jocelyn Korbe, a senior at MSU Denver, Korbe is composed, and she approaches me with a sort of buoyant optimism that’s surprising for someone who’s about to spend a long day competing.
