With a baby on her back, Zawadi Maringa came in quietly to the Utange Field Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya, in early November. She had heard about a cleft lip and palate camp offering surgery free of charge by a Canadian medical team called Operation Rainbow Canada. But the help she needed wasn't for her child. The 35-year-old had lived her whole life with a deformed face. "Since I was born, I went to another operation mission with my mom. But my mom ran away because she feared the general anesthetic.

A candlelight vigil was held in Surrey on Saturday night for the woman who was fatally attacked inside her home last Sunday. Dozens of family and friends of Tori Dunn gathered at Bend Regional Park for the vigil, some angry and all calling for justice. Tori’s father Aron Dunn said his daughter was “vibrant and full of life.”“She was a beautiful soul. She was kind, gentle, caring and soft,” he told Global News.

Bruce Fraser remembers the last time he brought his son, Travis, to a detox facility to help him overcome a years-long struggle with substance abuse. “He was so weak and skinny and in pain that I had to go into the building and ask for a wheelchair to bring him into the detox centre,” Fraser said, adding Travis saw a doctor and came out of the facility with two prescriptions. “They said, ‘that’s it’ and sent him on his way.”Three days later, Travis’ body was found in Surrey.

Six-year-old Aanakh Bhullar loves to dance just like his idol Diljit Dosanjh. The Punjabi superstar played BC Place on Saturday night and Aanakh was ecstatic when he learned his dad had bought tickets. “He’s been counting down the days and he would come home from his Banghara lessons saying, manifesting, visualizing how he’s going to be on stage,” Barinder, Aanakh’s dad, told Global News. Aanakh said he likes Dosanjh’s music and he likes his beard. And he is not alone.
